The Swish of the Swing

“I want to help you add effortless speed” - Danny Maude

Years ago, quite by accident I hit a free-flowing swing, that for me, was good. The ball went far further than I had hit previously. In trying to analyse the swing, all I could figure out, was what happened on one side of the swing was repeated on the other side of it. My trail arm had an L shape on the takeaway, I tried to have that L shape with my lead arm on the follow through. Needless to say, I couldn’t repeat the swish and success of that free-flowing swing.
Years Later…
I found what I had been searching for, a repeatable swing with effortless speed and the sound of swish. Danny Maude explained it to me in his YouTube video, ‘My Students Hit Driver Straight & Long Forever Because of This (Using Science)’. 16.01min.
Effortless Speed
Danny Maude looks to see what your hands are doing, what your arms are doing, and how your hands and arms, and body, blend together in your swing. Your hands and arms are a source of real, effortless, speed. It is surprising how far you can hit a ball with very little body rotation. Combine your hands and arms, with the natural rotation of your body with this swing, and you can drive the ball even further.
Grip is Important
Danny Maude says you should always check your grip. Grip in your fingers. Place your lead hand (your left hand for right-handed golfers) one inch below the butt of the club. The handle runs from the middle joint on your index finger, to the joint between the palm and the top of your little finger. Wrap your trailing hand around the club in your fingers in the lower position, The ‘Vs’ between the thumbs and forefingers mirroring each other and points toward the trail shoulder.
Consider purchasing a grip aid. The aid is one of the most popular golf aids on the market and one that is of real benefit to your swing.
The Drill
Stand tall with your feet together, grip the club correctly, work your hands and arms together. Fold your trail arm, your elbow will be pointing groundward, and it will feel close against your body, fully cup your trail wrist, the club will be at an angle over your trail shoulder. Blending body rotation naturally will get the club in the angled position over your shoulder. Go through the same motions to put the club over your lead shoulder. It is surprising how far you can drive the ball with minimal body rotation. Swing the club backwards and forwards, you will hear the swish as the speed of the club seems so effortless. Watch Danny Maude’s video to see how the drill happens.
More Speed and Distance
As Danny Maude says, “… build it stage by stage”. Widen your stance bit by bit, you will see a few extra meters added to your drive. Lift the club back and higher if you really want to add more speed to your swing. Lift your lead heel on the takeaway and stamp it down for more speed.
Go Back to the Drill
If swing problems creep into your swing, go back to the drill and rebuild your swing stage by stage. You will again find that effortless speed and distance.
This is the Driver Swing for Me
Danny Maude and this video was a revelation to me. Once I understood the philosophy of the swing, how the mechanics of it are applied, then put it into practice, I’ve never swung the club so easily with speed. This is an ideal swing for seniors to consider adopting. Age reduces our athletic abilities; this blended hands, arms, and body swing brings back the speed and accuracy we once enjoyed.
Remember this is a swing for your driver. If you can apply the swing to your irons, I’m happy for you. I tended to top the ball or miss it all together when I had an iron club in my hands. I sorted the swing using irons, again with Danny Maude’s help. It’s still basically the same swing with a tweak to the downswing.
Read my next golf article for my answer, to how to use the blended swing with irons.
