It’s obvious what the facts are, Pete Hesgeth made a great big blunder using a public app, Signal. I don’t know what is worse, the incompetence, the continued lies or the massaging of the truth. Revealing sensitive military information before an attack is dangerous for U.S. troops.

What happened

On Wednesday March 26, 2025, the details of a planned attack on Yemen’s Houthi rebels were released in a group chat via the Signal messaging app. These details were shared in error with a journalist from ‘The Atlantic.’

Sent by Defense Secretary Pete Hesgeth the details included the time of attack, aircraft launch times and targets.

The Fallout

Despite Trump calling it a ‘witch hunt’ and dismissing it as a minor issue, the response from critics and the public was of anger and outrage. Democratics called it “a gross failure of national security,” demanding the resignation of Pete Hesgeth, and pushing for investigations into breaches of security protocols.

Critics have raised concerns about the use of a commercial messaging app for such sensitive discussions, calling for more resignations in addition to the Defence Secretary. The blunder has been downplayed, claiming no classified information was shared, but the leak has sparked debates about operational security and accountability.

Not a witch hunt

This is not a witch hunt. The default response from Trump and his Republican team is deny, deny and deny some more. When a public denial insults the intelligence, the next move is to throw a red herring, calling it a witch hunt. This was incompetence by ignorance. Ignorant of what comprises security in military environment. Plans of a military operation should never be revealed before an attack happens.

A Symptom

This is a symptom of the whole Trump administration. Attacking everything; government departments, the legal fraternity, other countries, the press and critics. Trump leads the way, opening a trade war with Canada, the European Union and China. He lays claim to Greenland and even Canada. There is no basis to these exorbitant claims. Vance and his wife planned to visit Greenland; they are not welcome. Former Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and current Prime Minister Mark Carney have forcefully declared, never, ever will they and their fellow Canadians be the 51st state of the United States.

Summary

Fact, it's a military operation, information prior to any attack must be held sacrosanct, end of story. This potentially dangerous blunder endangered the lives of operatives.

Both men are actively undermining the strength of a government system based upon the Constitution of the United States of America.
