“The hallmark of successful people is that they are always stretching themselves to learn new things…” - Carol Dweck, American Psychologist

A growth mindset can be a vital asset to your business.
A growth mindset can be a vital asset to your business.

How you think is revealed in your attitudes, your beliefs and opinions when interacting with people in everyday life. How you respond to people and situations is influenced by how you think, and then how you act. Some situations are difficult, some are not, how you respond to them, leaves an impression, forming opinions in the minds of people about you.

A Growth Mindset

My experience with successful business owners of small, medium and large enterprises, all have demonstrated a growth mindset. An openness to continued growth, by improving their abilities to skilfully manage their resources, through ongoing learning and hard work.

Psychologist Carol Dweck has popularized the concept of fixed vs. growth mindsets. “A fixed mindset is the belief that our abilities and intelligence are static traits that cannot change, while a growth mindset is the belief that our abilities and intelligence can be developed through effort, learning, and persistence”

Characteristics of a Growth Mindset

  • Ability to listen and learn from others.

  • Feedback and criticism are part of the learning process.

  • Then after due process, prepared to implement systems that benefit the business.

  • Understand challenges are opportunities for growth.

  • Persistence to resolve business challenges.

  • Set leadership goals.

  • Efforts through experiential learning, both formal and informal, leads to better management of resources.

  • Celebrate success when goals are achieved.
